The Ukrainian city of Human is a burial site of Rebbe Nachman of Breslov, one of the most important figures of Hassidism. Every year tens of thousands of pilgrims come here to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. The film shows the tensions arising between pilgrims and local residents. When this poor post-communist city comes back to life thanks to its Jewish guests, the ghosts of nationalism and religious intolerance are revived, too.

The film co-financed by the Society for Arts.
