In September 1939, the USSR broke the Polish-Soviet non-aggression pact. On the night of September 17, the Polish ambassador to Moscow, Wacław Grzybowski, was presented with a diplomatic note informing him about the entry of the Red Army into Poland, allegedly to protect the Polish nation. The film presents these events from the perspective of witnesses and participants. It shows the dramatic fight between the Poles and the Russians, including the defense of Grodno, and the subsequent arrests and deportation of Poles to Siberia.
