The legendary Writers’ House at Krupnicza Street in Kraków was a unique place on an international scale. After the war it became a refuge for homeless authors. In 1945-1996 over 100 writers lived there (including Szymborska, Kisielewski, Mrożek, Różewicz and Gałczyński). Nowadays, Jerzy Kisielewski and Jan Polewka, both sons of its eminent lodgers, meet there to remember anecdotes from the ‘House of Bards’ and reminisce about the unforgettable atmosphere of the place and its transitory nature as reflected in the stage directions for ‘The Card Catalogues’ by Tadeusz Różewicz.
MAREK GAJCZAK
Born in 1966 in Cracow. Cinematographer, editor, director. Graduate of the Łódź Film School at the Direction of Photography Departament (1998). He also completed the Masterclass for DOP camera operator workshops in Budapest. During his film school years, he received many international awards for his film etudes, including the Silver Tadpole at the Camerimage festival in Poland for his film Looking for Moravia. The film also took part in the young talents review at the Cannes Film Festival. For the short film Antichrist directed by Adam Guziński, he received the award for cinematography at the European Short Film Festival in Stuttgart-Ludwigsburg (2003), while the film itself was submitted for an Oscar after receiving the Grand Prix at the Bilbao festival (2002). In 2006 he debuted as a director and screenwriter with a feature film The Underneath.
