The 34th edition of Polish Film Festival in America (PFFA), the world’s most extensive showcase of Polish film and the largest annual Polish cultural event outside of Poland, will take place from Saturday, November 5 to Sunday, November 20, 2022 in four prominent venues in the Chicagoland.

One of the highlights of the program will be EO directed by Polish master Jerzy Skolimowski (Barrier, Walkover, Deep End). The movie by veteran filmmaker is Poland’s submission to the Academy Award in Foreign Language Film category. This is his second submission after Essential Killing (2010).

Called “brilliant” by The New York Times, the movie debuted at the Cannes Film Festival where it received Jury Award. Made from the script written by Skolimowski with Ewa Piaskowska has numerous autonomous creators. Cinematographer Michal Dymek provides staggering images with acrobatic camerawork. The score by the director’s regular Pawel Mykietyn is also a significant factor in impacting a viewer. Sandra Drzymalska, Mateusz Kosciukiewicz, Lorenzo Zurzolo and Isabelle Huppert are secondary cast to the protagonist donkey.

The world is a mysterious place when seen through the eyes of an animal. EO, a grey donkey with melancholic eyes, meets good and bad people on his life’s path, experiences joy and pain, endures the wheel of fortune randomly turn his luck into disaster and his despair into unexpected bliss. But not even for a moment does he lose his innocence.
