BLACK MERCEDES (CZARNY MERCEDES) BY ACCLAIMED DIRECTOR JANUSZ MAJEWSKI OPENS THE 31ST POLISH FILM FESTIVAL IN AMERICA – SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2019

The 31st Polish Film Festival in America, the world’s most extensive annual showcase of Polish film outside of Poland will open in a month with BLACK MERCEDES, a new exciting thriller by the internationally-acclaimed film director Janusz Majewski (Jealousy and Medicine, The Deserters, Hotel Pacific, The Eccentrics. On the Sunny Side of the Street).

The VIP Opening Gala will take place in AMC Village Crossing 18 (7000 N. Carpenter Ave. & Central Ave., Skokie) on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 8:00 PM. All attendees will receive precious gifts. The screening will be preceded by VIP Gala Reception at the Society for Arts (1112 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago) from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. It will be attended by celebrities of Polish and American cinema. Live music by Chicago’s favorite Rio Bamba.

Both AMC Village Crossing 18 and Society for Arts offer ample free parking. The parking for the VIP Gala reception is available by Holy Trinity Church (entrance from Division St.), 3 minute walking distance from the Society for Arts building.

Due to a very limited theatre capacity, the 31st PFFA General Opening with the same movie program will be held in the same location on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at 3:00 PM.

Warsaw, June 1942. Aneta, the beautiful wife of a respected lawyer, Karol Holzer, is killed in suspicious circumstances. Rafał Król, an officer of the Blue Police co-operating with the Germans, tries to solve the mysterious murder. Suspicions multiply as one clue after another uncovers the well-hidden secrets of the deceased and disclose unclear connections between her husband and a high-ranked SS officer. Among the suspects there’s also a somewhat eccentric Count Leon Przewidzki, who has a habit of eavesdropping on the visitors to the lawyer’s apartment. During his investigation, Król finds an unexpected ally, Ernst Kluge, a Gestapo commander. Holzer situation becomes increasingly dangerous, while the murderer – still at large – might be ready to strike again…

The film is starring absolute top actors of Polish screen: Artur Zmijewski, Andrzej Seweryn, Maria Debska, Aleksandar Milicevic, Sonia Bohasiewicz, Boguslaw Linda, Marian Opania, Andrzej Zielinski. Artur Tomiak is a Director of Photography, music is composed by Pawel Lucewicz. The producer is Wlodzimierz Niderhaus of Studio of Feature & Documentary Films.

The 31st PFFA is dedicated to a memory of Milos Stehlik who prematurely passed away this July. Founder and president of Facets Multimedia, a very important film organization, he was one of the country’s best experts of foreign language film, prominent promotor od Eastern and Central European cinema, great friend of Polish cinema, and outstanding PFFA’s supporter. The Opening program will include a screening of short tribute to Milos Stehlik by Chicago-based director Kuba Luczkiewicz.
